Mansfield, Mass. - For the second time in his career, Adelphi University men's basketball star point guard
Ronnie Silva has been named a recipient of the NE10's Sport Excellence Award.
Each year, the NE10 recognizes one outstanding student-athlete from each sport it sponsors -- based on their athletic and academic merits -- with this distinguished honor.
In the almost fifteen years since the award's inception, Silva stands as the only Sport Excellence honoree from the Adelphi men's basketball team.
While excelling on the court, Silva has still maintained a perfect 4.0 grade-point average in Adelphi's sport management graduate program.
In addition to tying for the highest grade-point average of all NE10 Sport Excellence Award winners this winter, Silva achieved the impossible.
Entering his final year in an Adelphi uniform, Silva stood a manageable 395 points away from tying the school's all-time scoring record. He netted over 1,100 points the two years prior.
A season-high 32-point outburst at home against nationally-ranked Bentley set the tone for Silva to break the record a week later on the road at Pace. He rounded out his Adelphi career with a program-best 2,048 points.
Silva will also depart Adelphi as the school's career leader in three-point field goals made (363) and rank among the program's Top 5 leaders in made field goals (702) and minutes played (3,782).
