Garden City, N.Y. - One of the most successful seasons in recent Adelphi men's tennis history came to a close Thursday, in a 4-1 loss to Southern New Hampshire University in the semifinals of the 2023 NE10 Championship at the Adelphi Tennis Courts.
While SNHU was on the cusp of reaching another NE10 final,
Marko Jovanovic launched a comeback at No. 1 singles on fellow NE10 Co-Player of the Year, Jesse Den Hartog.
Even after dropping the first set in a grueling tiebreaker, Jovanovic bounced back in the second and came within a serve of tying the third.
With
Viktor Hockl and
Thiago Negrao winning their matches, Den Hartog still broke serve and captured the decisive match point with a 6-3 third-set result.
Hugo Munoz Reinoso battled to a pair of tiebreakers with 2022 NE10 Player and Rookie of the Year Jonathan Berling, but lost both by 6-7 (3-7), 6-7 (4-7) scorelines at No. 2 singles.
Gabriel Balestero was unable to withstand a third set against fellow NE10 First Team All-Conference performer Fernando Torres, falling 3-6, 6-3, 3-6.
Salomon Arce Lema came through with the lone point for the 'Cats, winning 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 at the No. 4 flight.
The Panthers wrapped up the 2022-23 season with an 11-7 record and a share of the NE10 regular-season title for the first time in program history.
