New Haven, Conn. - The No. 15 Adelphi University softball team continues to put pressure on the rest of the NE10, following Tuesday's sweep of Southern Connecticut State University at Pelz Field.
Now with a league-best 15-3 record through eighteen conference games, the Panthers will play their remaining six league games all at Janet L. Ficke Field next week.
Game 1: #15 Adelphi 4, Southern Connecticut 1
Junior pitcher
Lindsey Hibbs grooved through the first four innings, flirting with perfection for the second time in over a week. A lead-off single by SCSU's clean-up hitter, Paige Delier, broke up the perfect bid with an infield single in the fifth.
That same inning, Hibbs got touched up for her only run of the day, ultimately sending the game to extra innings.
Jordyn Pasqueralli led off what became a three-run eighth inning with a double to right center. After taking third on a wild pitch,
Zee Zee Shreter came through with the go-ahead single.
In sending eight batters to the plate in the inning,Â
Sabrina Morales dropped in a pinch-hit two-RBI single to left with two outs and the bases loaded to give Adelphi the key insurance hit it needed.
Hibbs went the whole way once again, fanning 18 SCSU hitters. She continues to close the gap on
Julie Bolduc's all-time single-season total of 337 strikeouts from 1985, totaling 276 to-date.
Game 2: #15Â Adelphi 12, Southern Connecticut 0
After extra innings decided the opening game of the doubleheader, the nightcap was far different.
Adelphi poured it on over the course of five innings. A Shreter two-RBI single in the second, followed by a two-run homer off the bat of
Brianna Fischer in the third opened the floodgates.
In fewer games, Fischer is now tied for second on the team with three home runs, only trailing
Courtney Wengryn's four.
Meanwhile,
Claire Fon was composed in the circle, firing five shutout innings of two-hit, three-walk, four-strikeout ball.
Head Coach
Carla Campagna and the Panthers round out non-conference play this week, starting with a 2:30 p.m. doubleheader against Molloy University on Thursday (Apr. 20) in Garden City, N.Y.
