Garden City, N.Y. - With a no-hitter in the books and surpassing the century mark in strikeouts this season,
Lindsey Hibbs and the Adelphi softball program earned a clean sweep on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action against Mercy College.
For their second outing at home, Panthers took down Mercy College by the scores of 4-0 and 9-1.
Claire Fon earned the victory in the circle for game two, which ended in five innings as a result of the run-rule.
Game One: Adelphi 4, Mercy 0
All four of the home team's runs came in the bottom of the fifth inning when Jordan Pasqueralli legged out an inside the park home run after successfully slapping a ball to right-center with the bases loaded.
Kendall Winn,
Jaden Farhat and
Angelina Kellogg all recorded singles to load up the bases for lefty Pasqueralli, who perfectly placed a line drive between outfielders that managed to roll all the way to the fence. Her speed around the path gave the Panthers a comfortable 4-0 lead as the Mavericks only managed to strand three on base for the entire game.
Inside the circle, Hibbs recorded 15 strikeouts - for the fourth time this season - all en route to her second no-hitter of the year.
Game Two: Adelphi 9, Mercy 1
It was another single-inning offensive effort for the Panthers in game two as they put up all nine of their runs in the bottom of the second inning.
Winn plated
Faith Camilleri and
Alexa Sacripante for the first two runs of the contest on a double to centerfield. The home team extended its lead after several miscues in the field for Mercy, as
Courtney Murphy tacked on two more with her stand up triple to right center, making it 6-0, Adelphi. A pitching change for the visitors could not stop the bleeding, as the hosts batted through the lineup, with Sacripante scoring twice in the inning on a sacrifice flyout by Winn to make it 9-0.
Fon pitched four innings, allowing six hits and just one run before
Tierney Fitzgerald came in in relief to close out the contest and victory, fanning two in the process.
The Panthers are slated to continue non-conference action on Thursday, Mar. 23 when they travel to take on Felician University in doubleheader action starting at 2:00 p.m.
