Hartsville, S.C. - After the team's first game against Shippensburg was postponed due to inclement weather, the No. 11 Adelphi University softball team still matched up with Coker College on Saturday in a single game and prevailed 8-1 to close out its season-opening visit to the Carolinas.
On their return trip home, the Panthers sit at 8-3 overall, with 28 of the team's final 40 games set to be played at the friendly confines of Janet L. Ficke Field.
The Panthers tagged the Cobras (12-6) for another first-inning run, after
Alexa Sacripante beat out an infield single that scored
Jordyn Pasqueralli from second with two outs.
Through her first four innings, junior pitcher
Lindsey Hibbs only faced one over the minimum with an astounding eight strikeouts.
As Adelphi came to bat in the fifth, the floodgates opened. Again, the Panthers did their damage with two outs, plating four runs off a pair of two-RBI hits by
Kendall Winn and
Jaden Farhat.
Farhat picked up another RBI in the seventh on a groundout, while Sacripante led off the inning with a solo homer to left.
Hibbs continues to surge with another start of double-digit strikeouts. She scattered an unearned run and four hits over seven innings with 15 strikeouts.
Head Coach
Carla Campagna and the Panthers begin their trek back to Long Island, and prepare for their home opener on Mar. 14 against the College of Staten Island at 2 p.m.
