Syracuse, N.Y. - Even with a 27-point performance from
Ronnie Silva, the Adelphi University men's basketball team suffered a narrow 88-82 loss to Le Moyne College on Wednesday, in their second meeting of the season.
Silva's 27 led all players as the rest of the Adelphi starting rookies each contributed a double-figure game. On the opposite side and rounding out the starting five,
Andrew Delaney was responsible for 10 rebounds and six points alongside a team-high four steals.
For the home team, the Dolphins (12-11, 9-6 NE10) Xavier Wilson posted 24 points as two others accounted for 15 apiece.
Both teams were under the 50 percent mark for shooting from the field in the opening half, but former Panther
Isaiah Salter poured in a half-high 13 for the 'Phins to help the hosts lead by 12 at the break.
Dayshaun Walton and
Elijah Lewis both landed three-pointers in the early going of the second frame to cut the Adelphi deficit to single digits, but a media timeout halted momentum for the visitors who were still trailing by 14 at the 10-minute mark.
It was a race against the clock as
Mason Jackson nailed a tre with 40 seconds left in regulation to make it a seven-point contest, but a late push to the basket was not enough as the Panthers fell by six. Le Moyne's bench contributed 12 points in the second half alone, as Adelphi was plagued with 10 turnovers in the closing 20 minutes.
Dave Duke and the squad will be back on Adelphi's campus this weekend when they host Southern New Hampshire at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4.
