Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Four Score in Double Figures as Men's Basketball Bests Caldwell, 67-62

Garden City, N.Y. - In a game where the lead changed 12 times, the Adelphi University men's basketball team came away victorious, stealing a 67-62 decision from Caldwell University on Wednesday, inside the Center for Recreation and Sports.

Four different players contributed double-digit scoring, with Elijah Lewis leading the way with 17. Dayshaun Walton recorded the only double-double for the Cats, with 11 boards and 14 points, while Jarnel Rancy matched his career-high in blocks, with six, while pouring in 10 points and pullng down six boards.

Two straight baskets from Lewis allowed the Panthers (5-4) to jump out to a 13-6 lead, which was shortlived after the Cougars scored the next 10 at 12:21. Back-to-back three pointers from Conor Regan and Andrew Delaney gave Adelphi a one-point edge with under five minutes to play in the opening half; a lead the home team held on to for the remainder of the frame.

It took two minutes coming out of the break for either team to score, with Caldwell cutting their deficit to five with a jumper from Kirk Parsons. The Cougars used an 8-4 run over the ensuing minutes to come within three of the home team, as Adelphi only landed one bucket in that stretch.

Caldwell's Isaiah Philbert drained a shot from beyond the arc to regain the lead for the visitors, taking a 52-50 lead with under 10 to play in regulation. Trading the advantage over the next seven minutes, it was Rancy's layup that put Adelphi in the lead for good, against the team he transferred in from this year. It was 15 bench points for the Cougars in the second half that kept them in the game, but only 25 percent shooting from the field contributed to the loss.

For just the fourth time this season, Adelphi outrebounded its opponent, 43-32 but committed 10 more turnovers for the contest.

The Panthers will play one more game before the holiday break, hosting the University of Bridgeport on Saturday, Dec. 16. Opening tip is set for 3:30 p.m.
