Manchester, N.H. - The Adelphi University volleyball team's penultimate match of the regular season went the way the majority of them have this year.
Adelphi (22-5, 9-1 NE10) scored a 3-0 win at Southern New Hampshire University—their 19th sweep of the season— on Saturday afternoon, and with it, set the stage for a crucial regular-season finale vs. Bentley University in a week's time.
At 9-1 in the NE10, Adelphi currently sits a half-game up on both Bentley and the University of New Haven, who are 8-1 in the conference, in the standings; having already beaten New Haven, a win against Bentley would secure AU the regular-season NE10 title.
Against SNHU (12-10, 6-4 NE10), streaks of points were the story, as Adelphi kept up its torrid offensive pace from Friday night's win at Franklin Pierce.
An 11-3 run helped the 'Cats establish themselves in the first set from 4-2 behind, and 7-0 and 5-0 spurts in the middle set helped them get up 2-0. Most impressively was how Adelphi closed the win: The Brown and Gold won 11 of the last 12 points of the match, including the last eight, which featured a pair of kills from
Madeleine Chaapel in her first match action in a month.
As a team, Adelphi hit .398—a season best—as setter
Brenna Valsted recorded her second double-double in as many outings with 38 assists and 12 digs. Leading the way offensively was
Macarty McQueen, who hammered down 14 kills—her most since a season-high 19 in a 3-2 win at Queens College on Oct. 19—while
Lilyen McCarthy recorded 11 kills without an attack error (and a .668 hitting percentage).
Noelle Alberda added 10.
In their regular-season finale, the 'Cats will celebrate Senior Night against Bentley next Friday night in the CRS before a 7 p.m. first serve.
