Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University volleyball program is headed back to the Northeast-10 Conference Championship following a 3-2 victory over no. 5 Southern New Hampshire University on Friday evening.
In a tight first two sets, the Cats found their momentum with the help of Jamaya Harris, who served a total of three separate aces to break up the Penmen system.
Despite leading 2-0 in the match, the Panthers dropped the next two sets. With a sense of urgency in the fifth frame set, the Panthers jumped out of the gate with an 8-2 lead to force the before switching of sides. Even with errors on both sides, Adelphi closed the match out with a score of 15-13.
Adelphi's victory was led by Macarty McQueen who recorded 17 kills, her most since her season high of 19 against Queens College. She was one of three Panthers to reach double digit kills with Lilyen McCarthy recording 15 kills and Samantha Meehan responsible for 10.
Brenna Valsted matched her career high 50 assists as three-time Libero of the Year Jamie Yonker recorded 30 digs.
The Panthers will take on no. 2 New Haven on Saturday (Nov. 18) at 7:00 p.m., making their second appearance in the finals in as many years.
