Orange, Conn. - In a two-day, home and home setup, the Adelphi University women's golf team earned a win over University of New Haven in its dual match that wrapped up on Monday (Oct. 30), by a final score of 14-6.
The two schools competed on Sunday (Oct. 29) at The Golf Club in Middle Bay in Oceanside, N.Y., before finishing play at Race Brook Country Club in Orange on Monday.
Scoring was varied throughout the two-day contest, with straight match-ups taking place on Sunday and another version of scrambled scoring taking place on Day 2. Two-player scramble, alternate shot, and best ball were all played.
The Panthers took Day 1 by a 6-2 scoreline on straight match-ups.
In the two-player scramble, two golfers from the Brown and Gold squared off with two other golfers from the Chargers. Each team had both players tee off, and then both golfers would play the best ball for their respective teams. The first individual to make their putt counted towards the team score, and whoever won the most holes in the section scored a point.
In alternate shot, the same 2-on-2 matchup was established, and -- this time -- each partner would take turns, until the ball was holed. After six holes, each team's score was totaled and assigned a point depending on if they won.
The final six holes (13-18) were played with a format called "Four-Ball." This time, in the same 2-on-2 matchup, each golfer plays the hole regularly. Your side's score is determined by whichever team member had the better score on the hole. For example, if Golfer 1 gets a four on Hole 14 and Golfer 2 gets a three, the team's score would be a three on Hole 14.
Lauren Jaskier and
Tara Torosian won all three formats in their foursome, earning three points.
Ilaria Ponziani and
Filippa Schulze Doering grabbed half points after splitting with New Haven in the final two formats.
Amy McCaffrey and
Isabella Deblois picked up two points for winning scramble and four ball. Trinh and Kim tallied one point for their scoring on the day.
