Waltham, Mass. - With next Friday's contest at Farmingdale State College being postponed, the Adelphi University men's tennis team rounded out its fall slate Friday with a 7-0 rout of NE10 rival Bentley University in Waltham.
The win has the Panthers taking a perfect 4-0 record into their traditional schedule this coming spring.
It didn't take long for Adelphi to lock up the doubles point, after the 'Cats lost a total of just one game between the No. 2 and No. 3 matches.
As first-time doubles partners, the No. 2 pairing ofÂ
Thomas Horsley and
Viktor Hockl shut out Bentley's Max Bonte and Christian Duffy, 7-0.
In the No. 3 spot,
Hugo Munoz Reinoso and
Reece Farrow posted a 6-1 decision over Ansh Chadha and Liam Marr.
After the short rest that followed,
Matias Hoyos won his NE10 debut by a 6-0, 6-0 scoreline at No. 6 singles.Â
Marko Jovanovic won in straight sets at No. 1 for the fourth time in as many matches, prevailing 6-4, 6-0. In his promotion to No. 5 singles,
Thomas Horsley continued to play extraordinarily well, capturing a 6-3, 6-3 result.
Viktor Hockl and
Hugo Munoz Reinoso battled to contested victories. Hockl fought back from down a set at No. 3 singles to defeat his opponent, 3-6, 6-0, 6-4. Reinoso's 7-6 (7-5) tiebreak at the No. 4 flight was the early difference in the 'Cats cementing a sweep on the road.
The Panthers will resume their schedule in 2024, beginning on Thursday, Feb. 15 at Division I opponent St. John's University in Flushing, N.Y.
