Volleyball Rolls to Another 3-0 Win at Post

Waterbury, Conn. - The Adelphi University volleyball team is officially on a season-best winning streak. The Panthers won their seventh straight tilt on Wednesday night on the road at Post University courtesy of another 3-0 sweep.

Sweeps continue to be a theme for Adelphi (17-5), which notched its 14th straight-sets win of the season and its seventh win in eight road tilts so far in 2023 on the strength of 12 kills from Noelle Alberda, the only player for either club to notch more than 10 kills.

AU improved to 3-0 all-time against regional foe Post (5-20), and all three of those wins have been in straight sets. Adelphi entered the night on a six-match unbeaten run dating back to Oct. 3, having also posted six straight wins from Sept. 16-28.

The 'Cats set the tone early by winning nine of the first 10 points of the match, and hit .424 in an opening set where they never led by less than six points. Seven ties and three lead changes made the second set the closest of the three played, but a Lilyen McCarthy kill at 16-16 gave AU a lead it never relinquished again to move ahead 2-0.

McCarthy also had a hand in the two points that wrapped up the set: She and Samantha Meehan stuffed a Tamara Radovanov attack attempt for set point, and her fifth kill of the set wrapped it up.

The Brown and Gold never trailed in set three either. AU won the first three points of the set, led by as much as five for the majority of the middle of it, and bookended things by winning six of the last nine points—three of which came courtesy of service aces from libero Jamie Yonker.

The Panthers return to Northeast-10 Conference play this weekend when they kick off a three-match homestand against Saint Michael's College on Friday, Oct. 27. First serve is set for 7 p.m. in the CRS.
