Rome, Ga. - A month removed from making history as regional champions, Adelphi University women's tennis players
Katarina Liedbeck and
Roisin Boyd finally got their taste of the national stage this past week at the ITA Cup..
Last month, Liedbeck and Boyd paired up as the No. 6 seed to capture the school's first-ever ITA East Region Doubles Championship, thereby qualifying for the ITA Cup.
As the nation's most talented Division II doubles players converged at the Rome Tennis Center, Liedbeck and Boyd found themselves pitted in the East draw against top-seeded Anais Ruyssen and Marta Komar of Wayne State University.
The two Adelphi underclassmen were unable to overcome the No. 6 nationally-ranked doubles team, 6-0, 6-1.
Liedbeck and Boyd won the opening set against Dallas Baptist's Isabella Arana Rios and Sofia Teran a day later, but lost 6-4, 4-6, 6-10 in the consolation bracket.
"I am proud of the fight our girls showed at this tournament," said Head Coach
Rebecca Fakas. "They faced tough opposition and represented the East Region well. Now, we look to build on this experience, as we get ready for conference playoffs."
Upon flying home, Liedbeck and Boyd will turn their attention towards winning an NE10 Championship. The Panthers will first wrap up the fall season with a 2:30 p.m. match on Monday (Oct. 16) against Molloy University at Sportime Hempstead Lake.
