Philadelphia, Pa. - The Adelphi University women's tennis team found itself on the losing side of a 6-1 decision at Jefferson University in its 2022 season opener Wednesday at the Legacy Youth Tennis Center.
Adelphi (0-1) set itself up well from the start, when
Julia Kielan and
Carolina Chaves won 6-4 at third doubles to kick things off.
The doubles point still belonged to the Rams (2-0) though. A hard-fought 7-5 battle favored Jefferson's top pairing in the deciding match, handing
Barbie Quagliardi and
Caterina Federici a tough-luck defeat.
Quagliardi was the lone winner on the day for Adelphi. The returning graduate student prevailed 6-4, 7-5 in straight sets at the No. 1 singles flight.
Julia Kielan took the opening set off her opponent in fifth singles, but came out on the short end of a 6-4, 4-6, 3-10 result.
Head Coach
Rebecca Fakas and the Panthers have a day off now before hosting Molloy University on Friday (Sept. 9) in the team's 2022 home opener at 1 p.m. in Garden City, N.Y.
