Lacey, WA - The Adelphi University volleyball program wrapped up its trip to Washington on Saturday afternoon, with a loss to Westminster College, 3-1 inside the Marcus Pavilion on the campus of Saint Martin's University.
Lilyen McCarthy once again led the offense with 12 kills, hitting just under .300 for the match.
Jaydin Nowak saw time as libero, collected 22 digs and seven assists for an almost double-double.
The teams traded victories in the first and second sets but the Griffins (2-5) ran away with the third frame, ultimately taking a 25-9 decision. Adelphi was down 21-7 following a 12-2 run for Westminster - a deficit too great to overcome.
In the eventual final set, Adelphi (3-5) fought back to jump out to a 13-5 lead with the help of kills from
Samantha Meehan and McCarthy, however the Griffins strung together a 10-3 stretch to even the contest at 18-all. Miscues from the Panther attack allowed the Utah-based institution to pull ahead by three and ultimately close the door with a 25-21 victory.
For the weekend efforts,
Jamie Yonker and
Noelle Alberda were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Adelphi returns to the east coast and will head to Wilmington, Del. for three games against regional competition. They will open up the weekend on Friday, Sept. 9 with games against Holy Family and the hosting Wildcats.
