Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Schloss's Career-High Not Enough as Volleyball Falls to Molloy, 3-2

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - Even with a career-high effort on offense from Katie Schloss, the Adelphi University volleyball team dropped a five-set heartbreaker in non-conference action on Tuesday to cross-town rival Molloy University, 3-2.

Schloss ended the evening with 17 kills, leading all players on the court - she also hit well over .400, after committing just three errors through five frames. Five different players reached double-figures defensively as Brenna Valsted paced the offense with 39 assists.

The teams traded sets to open the match, with Adelphi (6-7) using extra points to secure a 26-24 victory in the second.

Molloy (6-6) had the gym rocking as they reversed the set two final in their favor to take a 2-1 lead in the match. That stood as the Lions best offensive effort as a team, finding 14 kills with just three error for a .275 hitting percentage.

The Panthers managed to hold an edge in blocks, collecting 15 compared to Molloy's 13, as the home team out-aced the Brown and Gold 7-4.

Down two, Adelphi gathered up the momentum following a Molloy miscue at the net, as kills from Macarty McQueen and Samantha Collins sealed the deal for the visitors in a 25-23 decision to force a fifth and final set.

Molloy came up with seven of the opening eight points to take a staggering 7-1 lead and would continue to roll with that once the teams switched sides at 8-4. Four Adelphi miscues down the stretch sent the Lions on a 8-0 tear to close out the match, giving them their sixth win this season.

The Cats are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 24 when they open up Northeast-10 Conference play with a contest at American International. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m.
