Ludlow, Mass. - As the Panthers take a break from conference play for this week's ITA Championships, the Adelphi University women's tennis team took a trip up to American International College Tuesday and came away with a 7-0 victory.
Adelphi (4-1, 3-0 NE10) was staked to an early 2-0 lead, by virtue of default decisions at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
The Yellow Jackets (0-3, 0-2 NE10) also forfeited third doubles, and
Amanda Franstedt and
Carolina Chaves officially clinched the team doubles point with a 6-1 result at the No. 2 flight.
Caterina Federici made her first-ever top-singles appearance and won 6-2, 6-2 in straight sets.
Amanda Franstedt claimed a hard-fought 7-5 victory in second singles.
Julia Kielan and
Jenelle Downer each won 6-0 in their respective opening sets, and took down their opponents in straight sets.
The 2022 ITA East Region Championships will be played from Sept. 22-26 at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
