Another Dominant Second Half Keys 2-0 Win Over Post for Men's Soccer

Garden City, N.Y. - On Saturday night, the Adelphi University men's soccer team put a cap on a successful Brown and Gold Invitational with a 2-0 victory over Post University at Motamed Field.

In addition to starting the year at 2-0, the Panthers' first two wins this year have come against 2021 NCAA Tournament teams, who received votes in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Top 25 rankings.

While the two teams played a scoreless first 45 minutes, Adelphi staved off a flurry of chances by Post (1-1) in the opening half.

Most notably, in the 35th minute, Vaclav Borovicka hustled back on a 2-v-1 opportunity to deny an open net for the Eagles.

The sizzling tandem of Victor Castel and Rodrigo Descalzo Rocca struck again in the second half.

Castel subbed on for Tim Cleere in the 63rd minute and only 1:14 after stepping onto the pitch, the forward buried his third goal in two games to open the scoring. Off a quick re-start, Alessio Consoli played a back-footed touch towards the feet of a wide-open Castel for the tally.

With time ticking away in regulation, Descalzo put even further distance between the two teams in the 74th minute, when he fit a Pablo Herrera through ball underneath Post keeper David Mollenthiel.

Senior keeper Daniel De La Heras stopped both shots on target he faced in what was his second clean sheet in as many games.

The Panthers are in action next on Wednesday (Aug. 31), when they welcome in Mercy College for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Motamed Field.
