Garden City, N.Y. - Despite the rain and game time changes, the Adelphi University softball team won the Northeast-10 semifinal contest over the fourth seeded Southern New Hampshire University Penmen on Friday morning, 2-0.
Adelphi (40-11) had seven hits to Southern New Hampshire's (23-20-1) one.
Lindsey Hibbs retired 13 Penmen and only allowed one hti and five baserunners - with only one advancing to second. She now has 266 strikeouts on the season, and is the Adelphi's single-season record holder as a Division II program.
Faith Camilleri hit a lead-off home run to start the second inning and give the Panthers a 1-0 lead they held through the fourth inning. The home team loaded the bases in the fourth and back-to-back outs ended the inning, leaving all runners stranded.
One inning later, the Panthers sent one more run across the dish for a 2-0 score.
Ziara Shreter poked a single to left field that advanced
Lauren O'Neill to third, who reached on a walk to start the inning.
Alexa Sacripante followed up with a single to center field that scored O'Neill and secured the win.
No. 1 Adelphi will now host No. 2 Saint Anselm for the NE10 Championship game scheduled for Saturday, May 7 at Noon. The Panthers took both games from the Hawks during the regular, and look to win their conference title since 2018. This year's match-up will be a repeat of the 2019 and 2021 championship.
