New Haven, Conn. - With the title of NE10 Southwest Division regular-season champion still hanging in the balance, the Adelphi University baseball team played to a 12-inning tie against Southern Connecticut State University on Tuesday at The Ballpark at SCSU.
Â
As a result, the Panthers (25-10-2, 14-5-1 NE10) maintain a one-game lead over the Owls (29-10-1, 13-6-1 NE10)Â for the lead in the NE10's Southwest Division.
With only four conference games left in the regular season, Adelphi will travel to Saint Rose and Southern Connecticut is set to welcome in New Haven.
The Panthers fell behind 3-0 early and were held to only three hits over the game's first six innings.
Adelphi began to climb back in it in the seventh, after back-to-back one-out singles set the table for
Jack Ryan, who scored
Johnny Catuosco with an RBI groundout for the team's first run.
An inning later, the Brown and Gold made the comeback official. Batting in the No. 2 hole for the first time,
Jack Wishner roped a 2-1 pitch down the left-field line for a game-tying two-RBI double.
The Adelphi bullpen worked in and out of trouble and kept nine Owl baserunners stranded between the eighth and 11th innings.
Adelphi got the lead-off man on in the 10th and 11th and advanced the runner to third with two outs, but were unable to drive either of them in.
The four-game series between Adelphi and Saint Rose commences Friday (May 6) with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. in Albany, N.Y.
