Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Men's Tennis' Championship Run Stopped in NE10 Semis, 4-1

Goffstown, N.H. - The No. 3 seed Adelphi University men's tennis team nearly turned the tables on No. 2 Southern New Hampshire University in a 4-1 loss in the semifinals of the 2022 NE10 Championship at the YMCA Allard Center.

Even with losing the doubles point, the Panthers (8-8) took the first set at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles to put their opposition on the fence.

A pair of tiebreakers altered the tide.

At No. 2 singles, Gabriel Balestero fell 6-7 (5-7) in the second set and ultimately dropped a 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 3-7 decision.

Then, at third singles, Adi Saginayev lost an identical tiebreaker and fell victim by a 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 3-6 scoreline.

Marko Jovanovic took the opening set from NE10 Player and Rookie of the Year Jonathan Berling, before succumbing in a 6-4, 3-6, 4-6 match at first singles.

Pietro Sole accounted for Adelphi's lone point, via a 6-4, 6-2 straight-set victory at the No. 4 flight.

The Panthers will now anxiously await to hear if their name will be called for an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. The selection show will air Tuesday (May 3) at 8 p.m. on NCAA.com.
