Softball Splits at New Haven; 8-0, 2-0

West Haven, Conn. - The Adelphi University softball split at New Haven on Tuesday afternoon to hit double-digits in the win column in Northeast-10 Conference play.

Game 1: Adelphi 8, New Haven 0 F/6
The Panthers (23-9, 10-2 NE10) got the bats going on Game 1, producing 16 hits and eight RBIs.

Ashley Lombardi broke open the scoring in the second inning with a two-out RBI double to deep right field that sent Angela Lignelli safely across the plate, who reached base on a fielder's choice.

Lignelli reached first again two innings and was replaced on the base path by Angelina Kellogg. Kellogg was knocked in two batters later by Ziara Shreter to extend the lead to 3-0.

Adelphi produced a four-run fifth inning for a 7-0 lead. Brianna Pearson, Ashley Lombardi and Courtney Wengryn all had RBI singles to push the runs across.

Wengryn went 2-for-4 in Game 1 and notched her 30th RBI of the season in the act.

Claire Fon tossed all six innings of scoreless softball for her seventh shutout of the season. She retired seven batters and walked just one, holding New Haven (14-12, 8-4 NE10) to a .153 batting average in Game 1.

Game 2: Adelphi 0, New Haven 2
The Chargers and Panthers traded zeros until the bottom of the sixth inning.

New Haven's Jovanna Hillman rocked a two-run shot in the bottom of the sixth. Adelphi's next three batters was retired in order in the top of the seventh to end the game at 2-0.

Both teams only had fours hits, and New Haven had the only multi-hit inning of the contest, which came from Hillman's homer.
