Bowling Onto ECC Championship Match After Sweep of Playoff Bracket

3/26/2022 5:51:00 PM

Coram, N.Y. - A clean sweep of Saturday's three playoff matches has the Adelphi University women's bowling team appearing in tomorrow's ECC Championship final at Coram Country Lanes.

It is the first time that the Panthers will play in the ECC Championship since 2017, when Adelphi won its second of back-to-back ECC titles under the former championship format.

The championship final, now dubbed a Mega-Match, will feature Adelphi and the winner of the loser's bracket match between Wilmington and Bloomfield in a best-of-three format.

A traditional match kicks off the Mega-Match and is followed by a best-of-five Baker match. A best-of-seven Baker match would be played if a winner has not yet been decided.

"This team has really started to peak at the right time. Their belief in our system, having selfless attitudes and team-first mentality is what's propelling them through this tournament," said Head Coach Dennis Kearney. "I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings. They really are something special right now."

The Panthers averaged a 203.4 across the three best-of-seven playoff matches, including a 4-2 win over Daemen following a 1,015-803 loss in yesterday's qualifying round.

Their scores also increased with each game against the defending ECC runner-up. Adelphi eclipsed a 200 in each of its last five games and bowled no lower than a 192.

"All eight girls picked each other up when we needed it today. Whether it was a strike at an opportune time or a spare to close out a frame. They are truly showing what it means to be one team."

Between their two potential championship opponents, the Panthers are 5-2 against Wilmington this season and possess a 2-2 mark in four matches with Bloomfield.
