Baseball Surges Past Bloomsburg, 12-4

Garden City, N.Y. - On Wednesday, the Adelphi University baseball team took down Bloomsburg University, 12-4, in a mid-week matinee at William J. Bonomo Memorial Field in Garden City.

Since the team's nine-game homestand began last weekend, the Panthers are 3-1. In its last two games alone, Adelphi has outscored its opposition, 28-8.

Adelphi (8-4) started the scoring early. Matt Alifano doubled in the game's first at-bat and advanced to third on a wild pitch, before Division II's batting average leader, Kyle Olson, drove him home. Olson came around to score himself when the next batter, Michael Draskin, doubled to extend the Adelphi lead to 2-0.

The offensive surge continued in the third inning. With Olson on third, Tim Feliz stole second and both advanced on a throwing error to make it 3-0. One pitch later, Jose Matos jacked his first home run of the season and Adelphi had a 5-0 lead after three.

The Panthers kept adding to the lead in the fifth. Johnny Catuosco hit a sac fly to bring in Feliz and Jack Wishner singled in Matos. That ended the afternoon for Bloomsburg starter Dylan Lubinski. Alifano singled in Cooper Johnson to round out the scoring in the inning, which widened the gap to 8-0.

Although Tommy O'Sullivan surrendered a grand slam that cut the deficit in half in the seventh, Alifano and Olson both doubled in a pair in the latter portion of the inning that put Adelphi back in a comfortable spot.

A first collegiate start is in the books for Jordan Falco, who picked up his first win. He threw six shutout innings of four-hit ball with four strikeouts. Jonathan Fallacaro worked a scoreless inning of relief in his first college action.

Head Coach Bill Ianniciello and the Panthers now look ahead to opening conference play with a four-game series this weekend against American International College, beginning Friday, Mar. 25 at 3:30 p.m. in Garden City.
