Faith Camilleri rocked her first home run of the season on Wednesday, but the Adelphi University softball team were swept by the Francis Marion Patriots in doubleheader action, 4-2 and 7-0.
Game 1: Adelphi 2, Francis Marion 4
The Panthers fell behind 1-0 at the end of the first inning.
Faith Camilleri sent the first pitch of the second inning over the left field fence to even the score, 1-1.
Ziara Shreter singled the next inning and stole second during the next batter. Shreter took third on a strikeout and advanced home on a throwing error to give the Brown and Gold a 2-1 lead they held until the bottom of the seventh.
One out, two runners on, Francis Marion's Savanna Rosson sent it out of the park to end the game with a three-run walk-off homer.
Lindsey Hibbs earned another start on the mound and tossed eight strikeouts for the Panthers.
Game 2: Adelphi 0, Francis Marion 7
Francis Marion outhit the Panthers 7-4 in Game 2 and it was the difference in the contest. Adelphi didn't see a hit until the third inning.
The Panthers committed two errors in the bottom of the third that led to two runs scored for the Patriots. Two innings later, the Patriots sealed the deal with a three-run home run off the bat of Emma Moberg.
Adelphi left a total of six runners stranded on the game, four of which were in scoring position.
Claire Fon had the start in Game 2 and was good for four innings and five strikeouts. She was replaced by
Brianna Pearson who threw two complete innings and retired two batters.
The Brown and Gold will return to action tomorrow with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Fayetteville State University.
