Wilmington, Del. - The Adelphi University women's bowling team put a bow on this weekend's action with a tournament win at the Griffin Baker Classic, hosted by Chestnut Hill College at Bowlero in Wilmington.
The tournament played out as a preview for the slowly-approaching ECC Championship, as all nine participating schools will meet on Long Island next month to vie for the conference title.
With a 6-4 record among the two Baker competitions, the Panthers (37-26) still managed to lay claim to a trophy on Sunday -- the team's second win in their last three tournaments.
A tournament-high 976 series narrowly kept Adelphi atop the final standings with a 4,486 total pinfall.
While the Panthers led the field with four victories on Saturday, Adelphi came in second in the initial tournament and finished only 21 pins behind eventual champion Wilmington.
Stephanie McCoy, who was named All-Tournament with
Kristen Derr, led the Brown and Gold with 15 Baker double strikes on the weekend and converted 88.5 percent (23-of-26) of her single-pin spares. Her 194.4 average led all bowlers, while Derr's 188.7 was fourth-best.
The Panthers will now have two weeks off, before returning Feb. 25-27 at the Hawk Flight Invitational, hosted by Monmouth University, at Hamilton Lanes in Hamilton Township, N.J.
