Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

#3 SW Men's Basketball Bounced in Opening Round of NE10 Tournament

Garden City, N.Y. - After trailing by 11 at the half, the Adelphi University men's basketball suffered a first round loss to the sixth-seed out of the Northeast Division, Assumption College on Friday evening, 80-69, inside the center for Recreation and Sports.

Ronnie Silva and Isaiah Salter both knocked down four three-pointers apiece en route to 20 and 17 points, respectively, while combining for nine assists. Joshua Koulamallah went 7-for-15 from the field to finish with 14 points, the only other Panther in double-figures.

With a slow start from the home team, the pair traded the lead several times before Assumption put up a 7-2 run that kept them in the drivers' seat for the remainder of the contest. A scoring drought for Adelphi didn't help down the stretch of the opening frame as the Greyhounds (12-12,7-12 NE10) put themselves up by 11 at the break.

Coming out of the locker room, Assumption's leading scorer for the night Isiah Gaiter knocked down a three-pointer that sparked a 12-4 run in favor of the visiting team to give them a near-20 point advantage. Chipping away at the double-digit lead that the Greyhounds were holding, it wasn't until 1:23 left on the clock that three consecutive three-pointers dropped for Adelphi, cutting the deficit to nine, but at that point it was too late.

Adelphi earned a victory over Assumption earlier in the season, when they took a 76-55 decision in Worcester, Mass.

The men's basketball team dropped out of the top eight in this week's NCAA Division II East Region rankings, and will likely not earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. As a result, the Panthers conclude the season 17-10 overall with a 11-7 mark in conference play.
