Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Walton Leads Men's Basketball in 84-61 Defeat of Chestnut Hill

Philadelphia, PA - With a near double-double from Dayshaun Walton, the Adelphi University men's basketball team secured its third consecutive win with an 84-61 victory at Chestnut Hill College on Sunday afternoon.

Walton, who led the team with 17 points behind 8-of-12 shooting, was one board short from what could have been his second straight double-double. All starters for the Panthers (6-7) finished with double-figure points in the non-conference bout, and Mason Jackson came off the bench to contribute 12.

Adelphi lived in the paint this afternoon, scoring 40 points compared to Chestnut Hill's 26, while both teams only knocked down five from three-point range.

A three-point dagger from the birthday boy, Matthew Price made it 13-all after five minutes of action, in a first half that saw four ties from that moment on. A jumper from Andrew Delaney put the visitors in the drivers' seat from that point on, as the Panthers never relinquished their lead.

Jake Hlywiak drained a three-pointer that made it a seven point game with under a minute in the opener, but a 1-for-2 performance at the free throw line resulted in the home team trailing by six at the break.

The Griffins only shot 25 percent from the field in the second half as Adelphi held a double-digit advantage throughout. The visitors largest lead came at 1:23 left in regulation on a jumper from Jackson, which also stood as the final basket of the contest.

Adelphi will break for the holiday but host East Coast Conference foe St. Thomas Aquinas College on Thursday, Dec. 29 at 2:00 p.m. inside the Center for Recreation and Sports.
