Men's Basketball Earns Non-Conference Battle Over Goldey-Beacom, 88-79

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's basketball team got back in the win column after defeating Goldey-Beacom College on Monday evening in non-conference action, with an 88-79 win inside the Center for Recreation and Sports.

Ronnie Silva returned to the court to drop a season-high 29 points with the help of six threes, as rookie Elijah Lewis put up a career performance with 26 on 8-for-11 shooting from the field. The only other member of the Panther squad in double-figures was Matthew Price who accounted for 12, all from three-point land.

The Lightning (3-6), poured in 33 bench points but were only 40 percent from beyond the arc.

After winning the opening tip, Adelphi leapt out to a 23-14 lead, and led by 10 just under the halfway point in the opening frame. The home team took its largest lead at 8:37 when a Silva jumper in the paint made it a 13 point game. An Andrew Delaney dagger from beyond the arc put the visitors down 10, but a late jumper from three for Goldey-Beacom saw them trailing by seven heading into the locker room.

For the first half, the Panthers (4-7) were out-rebounded but landed nine three-pointers to maintain their position.

It was a 21-point advantage for Adelphi at 16:25 in the second, as a double-technical to the Lightning's Head Coach TJ Dekmar extended a home team run as Silva knocked down all four free throws he was awarded, to make it 58-37.

It seemed every time Adelphi went down the floor, Goldey-Beacom managed to respond, as each team committed the same amount of turnovers and had equal points in the paint throughout the remainder of the contest. It was the Brown and Gold who pulled down six more boards than their opponent in the second half, as Silva came through with 24 of his 29 points to seal the deal for the home team.

Dave Duke and his squad will be on the road this Wednesday, Dec. 14 when they travel to take on Caldwell at 7:30 p.m.
