Penultimate Regular Season Home Match Results in 3-0 Win for Volleyball

Garden City, N.Y. - With its 12th consecutive win on the line, the Adelphi University volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 sweep of Franklin Pierce University on Friday evening, inside the Center for Recreation and Sports.

Most notably, Jamie Yonker recorded her 1,000th dig in the third set, bringing her grand total to 1,003 for her nearly two seasons in a Panther uniform.

Adelphi (18-8, 9-1 NE10) put up its best set of the night in the opener, nothing a team hitting percentage of .516 with 17 kills and a single error. The Ravens were plagued with several miscues that opened the door for the hosts to continue swinging, as Lilyen McCarthy, Brenna Valsted and Macarty McQueen all produced kills en route to a 25-17 victory.

The Brown and Gold started off the second frame strong, using momentum from the first to jump out to an 8-3 lead. McCarthy put together two kills and a block to assist in Adelphi's five-point run which put them ahead 14-5, making it very unmanageable for Franklin Pierce to dig themselves out of the hole. The Ravens may have won four of the final seven points, but the Panthers secured the 10-point win to move to 2-0 in the penultimate regular season home matchup.

In the third, Samantha Meehan notched a sideout that sent the home team on a five point stretch to pull away from the Ravens, who were unable to overcome the deficit as a result. Despite trading points down the stretch, the hosts closed out a 25-18 win on a kill from McQueen to take the match.

The team will return to the gym on Saturday, Oct. 29 when they host Southern New Hampshire at 1:00 p.m. Prior to the start of the match, the athletic department and program will honor the members of the graduating class in Katie Schloss, Brenna Valsted and Samantha Collins
