Garden City, N.Y. - The No. 8 Adelphi University field hockey team's offense came to play Tuesday night, as it took down St. Thomas Aquinas, 4-0, in its 2021 home opener Tuesday night at Motamed Field.
The Panthers (2-0) had a dominant first half of play, tallying 16 shots, 10 of which were on goal. The Spartans did not register a single shot in the first 30 minutes.Â
Senior forward Kaylee Deleva put the first goal on the board for the Brown and Gold, after a scrum in front of the cage led to a tap-in. Deleva knocked in yet another one just minutes into the second half to stretch the lead to 3-0.Â
Joining Deleva in scoring were Danielle Kempf, who tallied her first goal of the season, and Giana McKeough.
The Spartans' first shot on goal resulted from a penalty corner in the fourth quarter. Adelphi continued its strong play in the second half, racking up nine more shots to outshoot STAC, 24-2.
Making another start in the cage was Amanda Montiel, who recorded her first shutout after facing two shots and making one save.Â
The Adelphi field hockey team will next be back in action at No. 2 East Stroudsburg University on Thursday (Sept. 9)Â at 4 p.m.
