Men's Soccer Returns Home to 3-1 Win Over Molloy

Garden City, N.Y. - After starting out the season 0-2-1 on the road, the Adelphi University men's soccer team returned home to play its first match at Motamed Field in 661 days and came away with a 3-1 victory over crosstown rival Molloy College on Tuesday night.

Despite giving up the game's first goal on a penalty 1:39 into the match, the Panthers (1-2-1) pelted the Lions (1-3-1) with shots throughout the evening.

Overall, Adelphi maintained a commanding 26-6 advantage in shots and possessed the ball for over 60 percent of the game.

Once Molloy broke through first, Adelphi went on the offensive and collected four corner kick opportunities and six shots in a 12-minute span, the last of which resulted in the game-tying goal.

In the 15th minute, Paolo Marciano played a low ball into the box for Francisco Greco, who sent a cross towards the back post that Filippo Peri headed in for the equalizer.

While the first half ended in a 1-1 deadlock, the Panthers unfathomably controlled possession at a 72 percent clip.

Midway through the latter 45-minute session, Adelphi was awarded a free kick to the left of the penalty area, after Molloy's Genarro Vilardi was booked with a yellow card.

Off the re-start, Matthew Lynch bent a cross into the 18-yard box that Joseph Thomann got a head on for the go-ahead score.

Nearly five minutes later, Marciano finished inside the right post with his left foot off a Franco Paz through ball that distanced the Panthers from their opposition for good.

Head Coach Gary Book and his Adelphi squad will now kick off NE10 conference play this Saturday (Sept. 18), when they host Le Moyne College at 6 p.m. at Motamed Field.
