Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University softball team wrapped up the 2021 regular season Saturday with another series sweep; defeating American International College, 3-0 and 7-1.
Game 1: Adelphi 3, AIC 0
Ally Muller got off to a hot start, striking out five of the first six batters she faced. She had four additional strikeouts, making nine on the game.
Faith Camilleri started a two-out rally in the fourth by drilling a RBI double off the wall that scored
Lauren O'Neill.
Kendall Winn followed with a groundball up the middle, which knocked in Camilleri.
A subsequent fielding error extended the inning for the Panthers, who had runners on first and third with two outs.
Angela Lignelli hit a ball right over second base, pushing Winn across. Winn had a perfect 3-for-3 performance in Game 1, with a double, one RBI and a run scored.
Adelphi outhit AIC 8-2 on the game. The Yellow Jackets put two runners on base, and both were left stranded.
Game 2: Adelphi 7, AIC 1
American International scored one run out of the gate in Game 2. It put three runners on base off three hits, and were able to push one across on a Victoria Andrade outfield single.
Adelphi produced four runs in the third inning to take a 4-1 lead and never looked back.
Amanda Owens got the inning started after reaching on a fielding error. Whitman and O'Neill produced back-to-back bunts for base hits to load the bases. Cicchetti found the gap in right center and it was good for two bases and two runs. Winn and Pineda accounted for the next two RBI in the inning.
Nicole Mengel started the game in the circle for the Panthers. She struck out four batters in three innings pitched.
Claire Fon came on in relief to take the win, holding the Yellow Jackets hitless. She retired all six batters she faced in order.
