Flushing, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's tennis team exited from the NE10 Tournament Friday, with a 4-0 loss to No. 3 seed Stonehill College in a semifinal contest at the USTA National Tennis Center.
The loss snaps a winning streak of nine straight for the Panthers (10-2), who now await word on a potential at-large bid to the NCAA Division II Championship.
Meanwhile, Stonehill will aim for a three-peat in Sunday's NE10 Championship final, while top-seeded Franklin Pierce, which knocked off No. 4 seed Le Moyne, 4-0, in its semifinal, hopes to win its first conference championship in the team's first-ever NE10 final appearance.
In singles,
Nicole Stay lost her first singles match of the Spring 2021 campaign, falling in straight sets (6-3, 7-5) at the No. 4 flight. It was her first singles loss in straight sets since Sept. 29, 2019.
Stay and Franstedt also dropped the decisive doubles contest by a 6-4 final at the No. 2 position.
Nicole Kielan lost the other completed singles match, also in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, at the top flight.
