Syracuse, N.Y. - On Tuesday, the No. 4 seed Adelphi University men's tennis team fell to top-seeded Le Moyne College, 4-0, in the semifinals of the 2021 NE10 Championship at Nottingham High School.
While their season has come to an end, the Panthers finished the year with a 6-4 record. It marks the first winning season for the program since 2016-17.
Adelphi nearly snatched away that early momentum.
Pietro Sole and
Salomon Arce Lema put the fate of the doubles point in the hands of the top flight, after evening up the score with a 6-4 victory at No. 2.
In top doubles,
Gabriel Balestero and
Valentin Le Goupil-Maier couldn't avoid the break though, in a 7-5 defeat.
Le Moyne (9-0) put a quick end to it in singles, winning the first three matches to come in.
Pietro Sole fell 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 2 flight. Le Goupil-Maier also dropped his match in straight sets (2-6, 3-6) at No. 3.
David Leader lost 6-0, 6-1 at sixth singles.
In the matches that went unfinished,
Luke Attride-Stirling led 6-4, 1-0 at No. 4, while Lema was in the thick of a tiebreaker in the first set of fifth singles.
