Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

#3 Women's Lacrosse Upended at #4 Le Moyne, 14-3

Syracuse, N.Y. - The No. 3 Adelphi University women's lacrosse program failed to overcome a five-goal deficit at halftime on Sunday afternoon, ultimately falling 14-3 to No. 4 Le Moyne College in its season opener.

The last double-digit loss for Adelphi (0-1, 0-1 NE10) dates back to the 2002 season when the Panthers dropped a 5-16 decision to UC Davis on March 29.

The Dolphins (3-0, 3-0 NE10) got on the board two minutes into the contest from the stick of Jessica Meneilly and tacked on two more tallies before the visitors found the back of the cage. Scoring the first goal of the 2021 campaign was Christina McCabe, who capitalized on a man-up possession after a penalty sidelined Le Moyne's Molly Hines.

Plagued by turnovers, Adelphi was held scoreless for the remainder of the first half as the home team went on to score three more before reaching the break.

Le Moyne added four straight tallies to open the second frame, including two before Adelphi even found an opportunity in their offensive third. Kerrin Heuser broke the silence  at 17:01 with her first goal in a Panther uniform, but two more scores from the hosts sent the game to running time. Kristina Kallansrude stopped the clock when she converted a free position attempt at 9:17, but the Dolphin offense kept pressing and scored two more by the time the clock reached zero.

Defensively, Kailey Broderick and Kerry Flavin both collected five ground balls apiece, accounting for more than half of the teams total for the contest.

The Panthers will open up at home on Wednesday, March 31 when they host the University of New Haven at 6:00 p.m.. Fans will not be permitted and are encouraged to tune in on NE10NOW.tv.
