Mansfield, Mass. - As it put the finishing touches on a 7-0 win against Saint Anselm over the weekend, the Adelphi University women's tennis team officially clinched the No. 4 seed in the 2021 NE10 Women's Tennis Championship, the conference office announced the six-team field for the tournament on Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers, who concluded the Fall 2021 season at 8-3 overall and 7-3 in the NE10, will host fifth-seeded Stonehill College in the first round of the NE10 Tournament on Wednesday (Oct. 20) at 1 p.m. at the Adelphi Tennis Courts.
This year, Adelphi took the regular-season meeting from Stonehill in convincing fashion on the road, 7-0. The Panthers won all six singles flights in the contest. Four of those results came in straight sets.
Adelphi and Stonehill are set to meet in the postseason for the eighth time in the University's 11-year history with the conference.
Last spring, the then-No. 3 seeded Skyhawks upset the second-seeded Panthers in the semifinals of the NE10 Championship, 4-0.
At one point, Adelphi knocked off Stonehill three straight years during the team's NE10 three-peat from 2015-17. The Panthers are 4-3 all-time against the Skyhawks in the NE10 Tournament.
The winner of Wednesday's first-round showdown will take to the road to face No. 1 seed Le Moyne in semifinal action on Friday (Oct. 22) at 1 p.m. A spot in the NE10 Championship will be on the line.
