Boca Raton, Fla. - The Adelphi University baseball team fell in a doubleheader against Stonehill and Lynn University Thursday on Lynn's home field to wrap up the brief spring training trip.
Game 1: Adelphi 2, Stonehill 9
After a slow start to the game, the first runs got on the board in the top of the fifth, as Stonehill (8-5) sent two runners home on a triple.
The score remained stagnant until a lively seventh inning, where the Skyhawks extended their lead to seven courtesy of five runs on four hits.
Adelphi (4-4) answered in the bottom of the inning, getting on the board as
Tim Feliz headed for home when
Dominic Paolo grounded to shortstop. Feliz made his way to third after a single by
Jack Ryan advanced him two bases.
The Panthers tacked on another run in the following inning when
Brandon Warick singled through the right side, sending home
Tyler Becker from second, following a stolen base on Becker's part.Â
Stonehill put up one more run in both the eighth and the ninth frames for a total of nine runs for the game. Â
Josh Rovner started on the mound for the Panthers, pitching for six innings with five strikeouts. Freshman, Steve Proko, was the closing pitcher, logging two strikeouts in his Adelphi debut.
Game 2: Adelphi 2, Lynn 4
Lynn (14-7-1) got on the board early, putting up three runs in just the second frame. Adelphi (4-5) wouldn't answer until the the top of the fifth, when Feliz scored off of a single by
Tim O'Connor.
The Fighting Knights replied with a single run in the sixth inning, pushing their lead to three.
O'Connor played a part in both of the Panthers' runs, as he belted a solo home run in the top of the eighth, his first of the season.
Nicolas Luc started on the mound, logging six innings with five strikeouts.Â
