Syracuse, N.Y. - On Tuesday, the No. 10 Adelphi University women's basketball team finished off a sweep of its three-game road trip, defeating Le Moyne College, 67-62, in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Court in Syracuse.
The victory extended Adelphi's winning streak to six games and improved the Panthers to 22-2 overall and 13-2 in NE10 play. Meanwhile, the Dolphins had their four-game winning streak snapped and fell to 15-8 and 11-5 in the NE10.
Following a low-scoring first quarter, Adelphi erupted in the second quarter and outscored Le Moyne 20-6 to carry a 34-22 advantage into halftime. The Panthers shot a sizzling 53.3 percent (8-of-15) from the field in the period.
During that stretch, the Brown and Gold closed out the half on a 13-2 run, led by a set of three-pointers from
Katie Murphy,
Fallyn Stephens and
Julia Strachan.Â
The Dolphins fought all the way back though in the third quarter and twice drew within a single point of tying the game. However, Adelphi re-found its rhythm and a Stephens trey as time expired in the quarter extended the visitors' lead to 50-44.
That momentum carried into the fourth quarter for the Panthers, who widened the gap to as many as 10 points (57-47) with 7:22 left in regulation.
Le Moyne again managed to rally and closed the gap to 57-56 at the 4:29 mark, but another key three-pointer by Stephens in response to the Dolphins' surge kept Adelphi ahead.
It would eventually come down to the game's final possession. With the hosts set to inbound the ball trailing 65-62, Le Moyne's Liz Millea turned it over to
Jess Camarda and Camarda sunk the subsequent free throws that followed to seal it.
Stephens had her first 20-point game since Dec. 15, scoring 20 points on 6-of-11 shooting from deep.
Leonie Edringer made 9-of-10 foul shots, en route to a 15-point day. She also grabbed 11 rebounds for a double-double. Murphy added 14 points, six rebounds and three steals.
Emily Miccile contributed eight points and eight rebounds, while Camarda racked up seven points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Head Coach
Missy Traversi and the Panthers will now play three of their final four regular-season games at home, starting Saturday (Feb. 15) against The College of Saint Rose in an NE10 showdown at 1:30 p.m. at the Center for Recreation and Sport in Garden City.
