Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Hands Bentley First Loss Inside Dana Center

Waltham, Mass. - In a tightly contested contest in the first half and ultimately down the stretch, the Adelphi University men's basketball team took down undefeated - at home - Bentley University inside the Dana Center Saturday afternoon.

The Panthers (15-7, 8-5 NE10) bounced back after a stretch that saw losses in four of their last five games, all by at least 16 points. Ronnie Silva, who entered the contest as the highest scoring guard in the conference and the number three scorer overall, chipped in a team-high 26 points with the help of 10 made field goals and a 3-4 performance at the free throw line. Spencer Foley and Austin Beech combined for 11-of-18 shooting from the field, knocking down four and three three-pointers, respectively to account for 16 and 13 points.

Bentley (16-6, 8-5 NE10) was led by Chris Hudson, who entered the game eighth in the conference in scoring (18.0), accounting for a game-high 30 points. The home team held an advantage in rebounds, points in the paint, and assists but fell short at the charity stripe as the team collectively only made 15 on 22 attempts.

A 6-0 spurt for Adelphi, capped with back-to-back free throws from Dwaine Williams, put them ahead by six at the 13:55 mark, a lead the visitors were able to maintain heading into halftime. The Falcons got as close as two in the second half of the first frame, but timely shots from beyond the arc from Beech and Andrew Delaney kept the hosts at bay.

Foley was the first to record a basket in the second half, again from three point range, as the visitors average nearly 13 a game. Fifty-four percent of Adelphi's shots have come from beyond the arc and 49 percent of their points are as a result of threes thus far this season.

Bentley's Hudson converted a three-point play at 9:58 that sent the home team on a 16-3 scoring run to knot the score at 64-all with 4:42 left in regulation. Beech and Foley each added a basket in the ensuing minute, with Foley's tre marking the go-ahead points for Adelphi. Despite the home team outscoring the Panthers 45-39 in the second frame, Silva shot 75 percent in the final 20 seconds to secure the win for the visitors.

Adelphi returns to divisional action next Wednesday (Feb. 5), when they travel to American International College for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
