Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's tennis team picked up from where it left off Sunday, ending a successful short homestand to begin the 2019-20 season with a 5-2 victory against Northeast-10 Conference foe Franklin Pierce University at the Adelphi Tennis Courts in Garden City.
It was the backend of the Panthers' (2-0, 2-0 NE10) singles lineup that secured AU's second-straight win to open the year.
Julia Kielan,
Nicole Stay and
Ashley Mannetta all won in straight sets at the No. 4 to No. 6 singles flights, respectively. AU lost just a combined six games in those three matches.
Kielan won 6-2, 6-0 at the fourth-singles position. Stay was a 6-1, 6-0 victor at fifth singles. Mannetta came away with a 6-1, 6-2 win at the sixth-singles flight.
Sophomore
Barbie Quagliardi was also a straight-set winner for Adelphi, defeating Franklin Pierce's (0-1, 0-1 NE-10) Himani Mor, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 1 singles.
In doubles, the Panthers swept all three matches to earn the team point. Quagliardi and
Nicole Kielan battled to a 7-6 (7-3) victory in top pairs. Franstedt and
Julia Kielan pulled out a hard-fought 7-5 win in second doubles. Stay and Mannetta recorded a 6-0 shutout at the No. 3 flight.

Frank Russo and his Adelphi women's squad are back in action next weekend (Sept. 13-16), when they compete at the ITA East Region Championships at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing.
