Millersville, Pa. - In its first road match of the season, the Adelphi University field hockey team fell to No. 4 Millersville University, 3-0, in a non-conference game Sunday afternoon.
Nationally-ranked Millersville (2-0) put up eight shots in the first quarter, compared to Adelphi's (2-1) two. AU freshman goaltender
Angelina Saunders was able to hold off the Marauders, racking up three saves in the opening 15 minutes. Saunders also had an additional three saves in the second, but let one ball by, as Asia Weaver scored her first goal of the season for the home team in the 27th minute.
The Marauders came out hot in the second half, with Weaver scoring her second goal of the game just two minutes in. Senior forward
Elissa Frein, an All-NE10 and All-ECAC honoree last season, answered with a shot less than three minutes later, but was unsuccessful as Autumn Peters notched her second save of the game.
The hosts recorded their final goal in the 38th minute, when Brynne Ehrlacher scored on an assist by Alexis Gazzio. The Panthers held the Marauders scoreless in the final quarter, but were unable to put points on the board in spite of another shot by Frein just before the fifth minute.
Saunders racked up a career-high 10 saves in her third collegiate outing, after facing 13 shots from the home team.
The Brown and Gold return home to Motamed Field on Saturday Sept. 14 at 11:00 a.m., as they take on Saint Anselm College in their first Northeast-10 Conference match of the season.
