No. 1 Men's Soccer Staves Off New Haven in NE10 Tilt, 4-3

Garden City, N.Y. - Senior forward Aidan Keenan registered his first career hat trick Wednesday night, as the No. 1 Adelphi University men's soccer team held on for a 4-3 win over Northeast-10 Conference rival University of New Haven at Motamed Field in Garden City.

The Panthers (6-0, 2-0 NE10) also fended off a late surge from the Chargers (2-3, 0-2 NE10) to secure the victory. Trailing 4-1 late in the second half, UNH's Sean Skeens netted two tallies in the final 25 minutes of regulation to pull within a goal.

The latter of Skeens' two goals came with 56 seconds left in regulation. However, AU freshman goalkeeper Daniel De La Heras faced no further threats in the waning seconds, sealing the one-goal victory for the Panthers.

Keenan, who also had the first multi-goal showing of his career, opened the scoring in the 11th minute, when he buried a rebound into the lower right corner of the net.

Then, in the 27th minute, it was Paolo Marciano that scored his team-leading sixth goal of the year to increase AU's lead to 2-0.

New Haven would cut the deficit in half to trail 2-1 at the break, but Keenan had more tricks up his sleeve in the ensuing period of play.

In the early stages of the second half, Keenan found the back of the net twice in a span of 1:15 for the hat trick, widening the gap to 4-1 only 11:19 into the latter session.

De La Heras made three saves in his first career start for Adelphi, which held an 8-7 edge in shots on goal and an 8-6 advantage in corner kicks. Stefano Lorusso stopped three shots, as well, for UNH.

Head Coach Gary Book and the Panthers return to action Saturday (Sept. 28), when they host Southern New Hampshire University in an NE10 showdown at Motamed Field at 7 p.m.
