No. 9 Field Hockey Shuts Out New Haven, 3-0

Garden City, N.Y. - The No. 9 Adelphi University field hockey team stretched its win streak to three Wednesday afternoon with a 3-0 shutout of University of New Haven in a Northeast-10 Conference match-up at Motamed Field in Garden City.

Adelphi (5-2, 3-1 NE10) slammed a trio of goals in two quarters, led by senior forward and National Field Hockey Coaches Association Offensive Player of the Week Elissa Frein.

Despite a slow start, the pace picked up quickly in the second quarter. After a scoreless opening period, Frein put the Panthers on the board just 4:54 into the ensuing period, after tapping in a pass from Bianca Bachisin, who got around two defenders to create the scoring opportunity.

Adelphi would double its lead nearly seven minutes later. With the Panthers threatening again, UNH's Taylor Geaglone was caught behind the goaltender as the last line of defense, awarding AU a penalty stroke. Jackie Brown then converted on the attempt for the hosts, making it a 2-0 game.

As the final 15 minutes got underway, Frein logged her second goal of the contest in the 49th minute, off a penalty corner by Alexandra Docyk. Adelphi outshot its opposition 33-2 to lock in its third-consecutive win.

The Panthers accumulated an impressive 25 shots on goal and silenced New Haven completely in SOG, leading to Adelphi's newest team member, Stephanie Peragallo's first win in goal. UNH junior goalie Natalie Shaker tied her career record with 22 saves for the day.

Adelphi returns to action Saturday (Sept. 28) at Motamed Field at 3 p.m. against No. 8 Southern New Hampshire University in its annual Red, White, and Blue Game, which will be highlighted by USA Field Hockey. The team will also be raising donations for the Stephen Siller Foundation to reach their fundraising goal of $2,000 for the Tunnel to Towers race, which will take place on Sunday.
