Volleyball Sweeps Day Two at Wilmington Invitational

Newark. Del. - On the second day of the Wildcat Regional Invite, the Adelphi University volleyball program took two, earning regional victories over host Wilmington University and Georgian Court University on Saturday.

Adelphi vs. Wilmington (21-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-16)
The Panthers took on the host Wildcats in their first contest of day two of the regional invite, after an extended first day featuring back-to-back five-set matches. Ultimately, Adelphi topped the home team, with Victoria Bailey leading all players with 16 kills, coupling her double-double with 14 digs. Brenna Valsted and Grace Wegmann split setting duties, accounting for 27 and 24 assists, respectively, as the duo combined for 13 digs.

Adelphi vs. Georgian Court (25-10, 25-21, 20-25, 25-20)
The Brown and Gold jumped out to an early 2-0 advantage in their second match of the afternoon, facing off against a Lions' team that was on a four-game win streak heading into day two. They dropped an earlier contest to Franklin Pierce and ultimately fell to Adelphi, snapping their season opening streak.

Sara Mandreja led all players with 13 kills and was closely followed by Cara McKenzie, who posted 12 kills and a .600 hitting percentage. Bailey also posted double-figure kills for the second match in a row.

The Panthers will open their home slate on Wednesday, Sept. 18, when they host University of Bridgeport at 7:00 p.m. at the Center for Recreation and Sport.
