Albany, N.Y. - Behind a six-point afternoon from
Nicolas Racalbuto, the Adelphi men's lacrosse program remained unbeaten Saturday afternoon, after earing 17-10 decision at the College of Saint Rose.
All three keepers saw time in between the pipes as
Brendan McDougal earned the win, finishing with 11 saves. In the near 24 minutes for
Kevin Rice, he was responsible for six saves and six ground balls as
Thomas Vasquez rounded out the contest accounting for two saves.
The Golden Knights (3-7, 2-6 NE10) were held to one goal in both quarters of the first half, as Adelphi (12-0, 7-0 NE10) ran up the score to 12 before halftime, courtesy of four and eight goals in the first and second, respectively. Saint Rose's lone lead came in the early going as they were the first to get on the board due to a game opening tally from Carter Badour. Five different players scored for Adelphi over the next two frames, including back-to-back goals from Racalbuto to wrap up the first.
Even despite an advantage in faceoffs won, the home team committed eight turnovers in the second quarter alone, allowing the Panthers to wreak havoc in their offensive zone, as they rattled off eight goals to the hosts' one.
Ian Kirby scored his hat trick in that 15 minute span, and coupled his three goals with three assists in the victory.
Saint Rose gained some momentum coming out of the halftime break, outscoring the visitors 3-2. This time it was the Brown and Gold who were plagued with turnovers, as they ultimately committed 11 in the second half alone, allowing the home team more opportunities to score.
Largely in part to the 12-2 first half the Panthers were able to hold back the offensive pressure from the Golden Knights, who scored five goals in the finale, edging the Panthers by two more goals. Jame Bifulco,
Cole Harriet and
Tyler O'Brien were responsible for the only strikes from Adelphi in the final seven minutes of regulation, sealing the deal for the visitors who remain perfect in 2019 as one of three programs still unbeaten.
They are joined by Limestone and Mercy College, who both picked up wins to post a 12-0 overall record this season.
One of the bigger meetings of the season occurs next Saturday, April 13 when the Panthers welcome #6 Le Moyne to Garden City for a 3:00 p.m. contest. During that game the department will also recognize the milestone anniversaries of the 1979 and 1999 Adelphi men's lacrosse National Champions. All alumni are invited to join the fesitivities with an unveiling of the newly renovated locker room at 11:30 a.m. followed by an alumni tailgate behind Motamed Field.
