Softball Stretches Winning Streak to Six with Sweep at SCSU, 5-1 and 6-3

New Haven, Conn. - Make it a six-game winning streak for the Adelphi University softball team.

The Panthers returned to Northeast-10 Conference play at Southern Connecticut State University on Wednesday afternoon, and swept their divisional foes in doubleheader action, 5-1 and 6-3.

A five-run second inning for Adelphi (15-12, 8-1 NE10) powered the visitors to victory in game one, as Emily Whitman and Emily Turney both recorded two-run hits, with Lauren Sandelier accounting for the other RBI in the frame.

The big inning was more than enough insurance for Ally Muller, who scored her ninth straight victory in the circle, as she allowed just one hit across seven inning and struck out 10 for the third time in her past four starts.

In game two, early runs were again the story for the Panthers, as the senior duo of Sandelier and Nicoletta Cuccio each drove in one in the second, and Whitman and Cuccio again used their bats to tack on runs in the third.

Cuccio also homered for Adelphi in the fifth, as a part of a 3-for-3, 3 RBI performance in game two.

Nicole Mengel went the distance for the first time this season for Adelphi in the nighcap, striking out five across seven innings and turning in a quality start with five hits and three runs (two earned) allowed.

Adelphi takes on the other side of the NE10 on Saturday, traveling to Franklin Pierce University for two beginning at 12 p.m.
