Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

#2 Women's Lacrosse Bests AIC in Regular Season Finale

Springfield, Mass.- The no. 2 Adelphi women's lacrosse program used an 11-goal first en route to a 19-1 regular season finale victory at American international Saturday evening.

Three of Kole Pollock's five goals came midway through the first half in consecutive order, making it 8-0 in favor of the Panthers (15-2, 12-1 NE10). The win secures the #2 seed ahead of the conference tournament, which is slated to begin on Wednesday, May 1.

Chelsea Abreu got things started for Adelphi in the first frame, even despite a Yellow Jacket win at the draw control. AIC (4-13, 2-11 NE10) fell victim early to strong defense from Nicki Stanco and Allison Stackpole, allowing the visitors to jump out to a 5-0 advantage just five minutes into the contest. The home team managed to stave off the pressing offense of the Panthers for a span of 10 minutes but it was Pollock's three straight that continued to extend the lead.

Christina Ferrara was the final member of the Brown and Gold to find the back of the  net in the first, capping 11 straight for Adelphi. Emma lemanski wrapped up her time in goal after the first 30 minutes, accounting for three saves in her fifteenth win this season.

AIC allowed seven more goals for the Panthers to begin the second until they finally broke the silence with 9:18 left in regulation, as Mikayla Demanche scored the home teams first and only goal. Alessandra Catalanotti did her part on defense which gave Molly Fetherston the final opportunity to add another tally to their side, resulting in a 19-1 victory for the second ranked team in division II.

Adelphi plays host to #7 Merrimack in the first round of the Northeast-10 Tournament, on Wednesday May 1. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. at Motamed Field.
