Softball Downs Le Moyne in Rain-Shortened Opener, 3-0

Garden City, N.Y. - Hannah Pineda's three-run in the bottom of the third inning powered the Adelphi University softball team to a rain-shortened 3-0 victory in Friday's series opener against the Le Moyne College Dolphins.

With one swing, Pineda broke a scoreless tie and put the Panthers (28-17, 18-6 NE10) ahead, and one inning later, the Panthers and Dolphins sat through a nearly 90-minute rain delay as thunderstorms moved through the area.

Before the sophomore came to the plate, Nicoletta Cuccio and Emily Whitman singled ahead of her, and Pineda launched Lauren Nichols' third pitch over the left-center field fence for the lead.

Upon resumption, Ally Muller worked out of a jam in the top of the fifth after a lead off walk, making the game official, and the game was called as more inclement weather arrived.

The Panthers and Dolphins will play two more tomorrow afternoon to complete the regular season at an hour later than scheduled.

Saturday's doubleheader will now begin at 1 p.m., with Senior Day set to take place prior to first pitch. The team will honors its graduating class of 2019: Cuccio, Kristin Fealy, Lauren Sandelier and Jessica Vadala.
