Rindge, NH - The Adelphi University men's lacrosse program locked up a share of the Northeast-10 Conference Regular Season title following a narrow 8-6 victory at Franklin Pierce Tuesday afternoon, for the first time since the 2017 season.
Adelphi (15-1, 10-1 NE10) shares the title with Le Moyne and Merrimack, who also conclude the regular season slate at 10-1.Â
The Panthers' first NE10 regular season title was earned in 2013, when the team posted an identical record (10-1) in league play. They have won it on two other occasions on top of making the NE10 tournament every year since their first season in 2010. Â
The Ravens (5-8, 3-8 NE10) held off their opponents for four minutes until
Angelo Caiazzo netted the opener, and were quick to make it an even contest on a defensive miscue by Adelphi in the ensuing minute. The teams traded goals over the first and second quarter to be even once more at two-all, but it was the second-ranked Panthers that netted another before the break to make it a three-goal contest at halftime.Â
Ian Kirby,
Quintin McKenna and
Philip Brady were responsible for the three unanswered goals to put the visiting team in control. Coming out of the break, the home team was unable to stop Adelphi's leading scorer
Nicolas Racalbuto as he recorded back-to-back tallies to extend the lead to five.Â
Franklin Pierce's Stephen Ell scored for the home team at 10 minutes in the third, after being held quiet since the 5:21 mark in the second quarter. Adelphi took eight shots in the final frame, two of which landed on goal but were held scoreless from the Raven's keeper Brian Schiavi. The hosts managed two tallies to bring the contest within two but fell short with a comeback as regulation expired.Â
Brendan McDougal, honored as this week's league Goalkeeper of the Week picked up two of his 10 saves in the last quarter, en route to his fifteenth victory this season.Â
The NE10 Championship begins this Saturday, April 27 for all quarterfinal action. Since Adelphi earned the top-seed, they subsequently earn a first round bye and will host the winner of No. 4/No. 5 which will be released by the conference office prior to the weekend.Â
